Substance Abuse Counselor Job Summary

In this role, you will provide group and individual counseling, community support, case coordination, and crisis intervention services to clients with a primary substance use disorder diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Complete assessments of each client to identify their needs and develop a comprehensive service plan.
  • Initiate and sustain each individual's motivation to participate in treatment.
  • Provide daily treatment and curriculum-based education groups to support clients in their recovery journey.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED and 24 credit hours of college education or accredited training program in substance abuse counseling and/or other human services area.
  • Required certifications or license: IAODAPCA certification CADC, or above. LSW, LCSW, LPC, or LCPC.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license.
  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Criminal clearances (Act 33 and 34, specific State & child clearances and, if necessary, FBI).
  • Drug screen & TB test.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
