Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Development Officer to join our Advancement team at Whitehead Institute. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a portfolio of high-end annual fund donors with major gift potential, and will provide strategic oversight and implementation of the Whitehead Alumni Network.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Director of Advancement to facilitate all aspects of the Annual Fund appeals, including mailings and electronic communications.
  • Direct communications and solicitations pertaining to the Annual Fund and the Alumni Fund.
  • Manage a portfolio of high-end annual gift donors with major gift potential, working with the Director of Advancement to create an effective strategy for this portfolio.
  • Track and report relationship management activity, including in-person visits, outreach, and solicitations.
  • Make direct, in-person solicitations and work with Whitehead leadership and faculty as needed to coordinate donor stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation.
  • Assist with the execution of all IA events, including annual multi-day events, large receptions, and small donor gatherings and dinners.
  • Participate in regular Advancement and organization-wide meetings and develop and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with team members.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of successful experience in annual fund and major gifts fundraising, with a priority for those with experience working directly with alumni networks.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, flexible, and able to prioritize.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Raiser's Edge is a plus.
  • Ability to travel when required for events in other cities.
