Clinical Screener
Clinical Screeners at Northern Illinois University work from home, conducting specialized assessments of children in substitute care and their former guardians. These assessments involve developing a diagnostic impression, estimating violence potential, and evaluating parenting capacity. Clinical Screeners complete detailed reports to inform treatment planning and develop permanency plans for children.
Key responsibilities include conducting trauma-focused assessments, early childhood developmental screenings, and assessments of youth to inform treatment recommendations. Clinical Screeners also conduct diagnostic substance abuse assessments, parenting capacity evaluations, and assessments of interpersonal violence. They integrate information from assessments, case file review, and other documentation to write forensic reports and provide recommendations for services.
Minimum requirements include a current Illinois LCSW, LCPC, LMFT, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist license, a Master's degree from a related field, and three years of relevant clinical experience. Knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, empirically supported clinical practices, and social, emotional, and physical development across the lifespan is also required.
Clinical Screeners work independently, with some regional travel to conduct assessments within their region. They are expected to take a leadership role in IDCFS clinical meetings and complete clinical documentation.
