Our Magnetic Resonance Imaging Specialist plays a crucial role in executing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures to aid in the diagnosis of various medical conditions and injuries.

Essential Qualifications

Educational Background and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Completion of an accredited MRI technologist training program is required
  • At least one year of hands-on experience in performing MRI procedures
  • Current CPR certification is necessary
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is preferred
  • Licensure and/or certification as mandated by the State of North Carolina
  • Proficient understanding of MRI protocols and procedures
  • Familiarity with anatomy and physiology essential for conducting MRI scans, including patient movement and body mechanics. Specifically, understanding of cross-sectional anatomy, medical and surgical conditions, and scientific principles relevant to MR imaging
  • Awareness of safety hazards and contraindications for patients and visitors within the facility
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic imaging procedures, ensuring proper placement of coils and immobilization as necessary
  • Assists physicians during the administration of contrast media and adheres to medical and surgical aseptic techniques. Monitors patients for any allergic reactions and responds appropriately
  • Determines imaging parameters based on the specific scan type and individual patient characteristics
  • Clearly explains the imaging process and procedure to patients to alleviate any anxiety and promote cooperation. Monitors patients throughout the procedure to identify excessive anxiety
  • Conducts examinations with consideration of the patient's age, medical status, or other special requirements
  • Screens patients and visitors outside the magnetic field prior to the exam for any precautions or contraindications related to the procedure (e.g., pacemakers, claustrophobia, metallic objects)
  • Prepares exams for interpretation by the radiologist, ensuring correct identification, film processing, adequate clinical history, and availability of previous exams for comparison
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Manager, including schedule adjustments and travel to various office locations as needed
