Development Chemist Job Description

At Johnson Controls, we're seeking a talented Chemical Innovator for Special Hazards to join our team. As a key member of our Special Hazards/Agents New Product Introduction Team, you'll play a crucial role in developing and testing next-generation fire suppression agents.

We're looking for a motivated individual with a strong background in chemistry and experience working in research and development environments. Your laboratory fundamentals should include documentation and chemical hygiene/safety protocols, and you should be comfortable handling flammable liquids, conducting live fire tests, and lifting loads up to thirty-five pounds.

The ideal candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, enabling them to work effectively as part of a cross-functional product development team. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and Internet software is also essential.

This exciting opportunity offers a competitive salary range of $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on your qualifications and experience. You'll also enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including 401K, medical, dental, and vision care, available from day one. Paid vacation/holidays/sick time are included, with 15 days of vacation in the first year.

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Chemistry
  • 4-6 years' experience in a research and development environment
  • Strong laboratory fundamentals, including documentation and chemical hygiene/safety
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work as part of a cross-functional product development team

A successful candidate will be a focused, creative thinker with a drive for results who is comfortable working independently or as part of a team. The ability to pivot based on business needs is critical.
