As a Marine Tankerman at Marathon Petroleum, you will play a critical role in the safe and efficient transfer of various types of barges. This shore-based position will be based out of Catlettsburg, KY, and will report to the Marine Operations Area Supervisor.

Job Description

This is an on-call position, and Tankerman must respond within one hour of notification as to readiness for work. They will work in all weather conditions, both day and night, as the job assignment requires. Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism are critical to this position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct barge transfers based on MPC's procedures and all applicable USCG regulations/guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance on barges.
  • Proficient in all phases of barge transfers, including heater operation on hot oil barges.
  • Maintain records and document all transfer times to be turned into the office in a timely manner.
  • Maintain uniforms and equipment necessary for transfers in good, clean condition so as to be ready and available for each barge transfer.
  • May conduct transfer audits on third-party Tankerman and assist in training new Tankerman.
  • Interface with customers and do so in accordance with MPC's policies/procedures.
  • Participate in safety and training activities.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A High school diploma or GED
  • A Valid driver's license
  • Your own mode of dependable transportation and ability to travel to work locations via that transportation and via boat ride up to 200 miles from the base location of Catlettsburg, KY
  • A Valid Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with Tankerman PIC and Barge DL endorsement
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card
  • The ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check

Marathon Petroleum offers a salary range of $60,000-$80,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits and bonuses. The estimated annual salary for this position is around $70,000.
