Senior Computational Biologist

The New York Genome Center is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. Our scientists and staff are furthering new approaches to diagnosing and treating neurological diseases and cancer through their unique capabilities in whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, state-of-the-art analytics, and the development of genomic tools.
We concentrate specifically on disease-based research in the following areas: neuropsychiatric disease (autism, schizophrenia, bipolar); neurodegenerative disease (ALS, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's), and cancer.
This position is eligible for visa sponsorship and relocation assistance.
Located in Lower Manhattan, we were founded by and remain closely affiliated with the leading academic medical centers and research universities in the New York region, engaging in research projects with and for these institutions.
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Senior Computational Biologist to join our team As a Senior Computational Biologist, you will design, develop, and apply computational methods and tools to analyze and interpret large-scale genomic data. Your primary focus will be on statistical genetics, machine learning, and population genetics in the context of neuropsychiatric disorders.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop novel computational methods and tools to analyze and interpret large-scale genomic data.
- Analyze and integrate data from various sources, including but not limited to genomic sequence data, gene expression data, and electronic health records.
- Collaborate with researchers, clinicians, and other stakeholders to identify research priorities and develop research plans.
- Publish research findings in top-tier scientific journals and present at conferences.
- Mentor junior researchers and students to develop their research skills and interests.
Your Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Genetics, Epidemiology, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Java, Python, R.
- Strong background in statistical genetics, machine learning, and population genetics.
- Excellent organization and communication skills.
