Laboratory Chemist II

We are seeking a highly skilled Chemist II to join our Radiochemistry Team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting complex analytical chemistry procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of our laboratory results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform the preparation and analysis of drinking water and environmental samples for radioactive isotopes, following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality control protocols.
- Operate laboratory equipment and counting instruments, performing calibrations, verifications, and routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
- Conduct quality control procedures, including the evaluation of analytical data and the identification of any questionable results.
- Assist in the preparation of samples for gamma analysis, including soil, vegetation, tissue, and food samples.
- Participate in the radiological emergency response team, assisting in the preparation of the mobile lab for travel and onsite operations.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of analytical chemistry principles and techniques, laboratory quality principles and practices, and Environmental Protection Agency analysis procedures.
- Ability to accurately follow detailed written and verbal instructions, build effective working relationships, and work closely with team members.
- Ability to perform precise laboratory measurements, concurrently perform multiple tasks, and identify and resolve instrumental and analytical problems.

This position requires the ability to work in a laboratory setting, handling hazardous materials and operating complex equipment. The successful candidate must be able to maintain a safe and healthy work environment, adhering to all relevant policies and procedures.
