Phlebotomy Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team at Advocate Health. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from patients in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities:

• Verify patient identification to ensure accurate specimen collection.
• Assess patient reactions to specimen procurement and take necessary action.
• Collect blood and other specimens from patients using venipuncture and other established protocols.
• Obtain medical assistance when necessary and ensure completion of specimen collection functions according to protocol.
• Ensure that specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing.
• Resolve specimen identification and requisition problems and clarify requests.
• Answer and screen telephone calls and assist with inventory and supplies.
• Accept specimens from internal and external customers and respond to additional specimen procurement requests.
• Order and verify test requests and document information for quality assurance and improvement.
• Review pending and management reports and generate and distribute reports as needed.
• Provide assistance in support of billing and other business functions.
• Instruct employees and students in phlebotomy and data entry.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills and experience using software applications required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to interface effectively with physicians, patients, and other healthcare employees.

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for the majority of the workday.
• May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radioactive, and infectious agents.
• Will be exposed to human blood and body fluids.
