Job Description

The Automation Controls Specialist at Alpha Matrix is responsible for designing and developing automated overhead crane control systems from inception to completion. This position requires technical proficiency in various industrial controls platforms and the ability to interact with customers in design reviews, project updates, and installations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop complete automation systems using AutoCAD Electrical software, including power distribution, safety circuits, I/O controls, communications, and panel layout drawings.
  • Calculate panel SCCR, power rating, and FLA for panel rating.
  • Assemble electrical components during equipment build.
  • Program PLCs, SCADA, HMI, and VFDs for automated cranes from scratch.
  • Configure, debug, and test equipment on the shop floor in preparation for customer reviews.
  • Lead runoff on the shop floor with customers.
  • Assemble electrical components during equipment installation.
  • Lead start-up at customer facilities and drive projects to completion.
  • Manage time and costs to meet budget and schedule requirements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field or 5+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of controls experience in the machine building OEM industry.
  • Ability to travel and work at customer facilities for approximately 30% of the time.
  • Strong understanding of industrial controls, PLCs, and VFDs.
  • Proven ability in VFD commissioning: Magnetek/Yaskawa, Siemens, Rockwell.
  • Talent in programming in a ladder logic environment: Allen Bradley Studio 5000 and Siemens TIA Portal.
  • Experience setting up Remote IO and other components on industrial networks: Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, Profibus, and Modbus.
  • Experience building, troubleshooting, and deploying SCADA systems.
  • Experience setting up HMIs: Allen Bradley and Siemens.
  • Strong communication skills within the organization and with customers.
  • Ability to lead projects at installation and serve as the main customer interface.
  • Understanding of RIA Robot Safety Standards, OSHA Safety Standards, and NFPA 79 standards.
