Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Transportation Driver to join our team at the Marion Independent School District. As a Transportation Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, as well as to various activities and events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely transport students to and from school, activities, and events
  • Effectively manage student behavior and maintain a cooperative attitude
  • Use effective and professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Present self in a professional manner, including attire and being alert and attentive
  • Successfully complete all required trainings, meetings, classes, and professional development
  • Work together as a team to keep the interior and exterior of the vehicle clean, safe, and presentable
  • Quickly and safely evacuate the vehicle in case of an emergency
  • Check student roster to ensure proper ridership
  • Maintain current knowledge of all student requirements, such as medical protocols, IEPs, etc. and respond appropriately to events by following written protocols
  • Properly secure students in required safety equipment and restraints
  • Safely assist non-ambulatory students into and out of the vehicle
  • Accurately complete reports and paperwork in a timely manner, including vehicle maintenance requests, student behavior referrals, timecards, directions, etc.
  • Abide by federal law, state law, and district policies, procedures, and expectations
  • Utilize technology when required
  • Consistently perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Immediately report accidents
  • Ensure the vehicle is properly fueled according to department policy
  • Prepare the vehicle for student transport, including inclement weather, harnesses, booster seats, etc.
  • Safely and appropriately operate various types of vehicles and equipment, including radios and emergency equipment
  • Report any safety or maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
  • Report all moving violations to the Transportation Manager, including any received while on or off the clock
  • Clean the van as designated by department procedures
Work Environment

The Transportation Driver will work in an indoor/outdoor environment subject to changing temperatures, including extreme heat and cold. The position will involve direct contact with the public, students, and other district staff. The Transportation Driver may be exposed to heights, loud noises, fumes, dust, and other odors. The position may be subject to tight deadlines and continuously changing priorities and interruptions.

Physical Demands

The Transportation Driver will be required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time. The position will involve entering and exiting vehicles regularly, descending from the back door of the vehicle in emergencies onto uncertain surfaces, repeatedly lifting and carrying students or objects weighing up to 75 pounds for 100 or more feet, and continuously using hands, fingers, and wrists repetitively.

Hazards

The Transportation Driver may be exposed to possible contact with blood-borne pathogens and/or bodily fluids and contact with chemicals used for cleaning buses.
