Job Summary: The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role is crucial in supporting and assisting Members with developmental disabilities in developing/enhancing basic living and other life skills, promoting independence and individual choice.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Ensure the health, safety, and security of Members, including assistance with Activities of Daily Living (eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, ambulation, and continence).
  2. Coordinate instruction and supervision of Members in basic activities of daily living skills and recreational events in accordance with the Person-Centered Plan.
  3. Encourage positive interpersonal skills among Members.
  4. Coordinate transportation, transportation, and/or accompany Members according to their Person-Centered Plan.
  5. Ensure proper medication procedures are followed for Members.
  6. Implement physicians' orders correctly.
  7. Develop, implement, document, and monitor each Member's program.
  8. Communicate progress and issues in a timely manner to the appropriate staff.
  9. Manage Members' and household accounts.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding Members and The Opportunity Tree.
  11. Perform daily job duties in a safe and healthy manner.
  12. Promote and maintain a collaborative and respectful working environment.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Current driver's license with a Non-Restricted Motor Vehicle Record and compliance with The Opportunity Tree's insurance carrier requirements.
  • Communicate in English; speech, write, and read.
  • Preferred experience in the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) field.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, and web browsing.

Work Environment:

  1. Lift/carry/transfer a minimum of 40 pounds.
  2. Bend, kneel, and stoop.
  3. Push or pull wheelchairs.
  4. Reach/overhead reach.
  5. Walk/stand for extended periods.
  6. Sit for extended periods.
  7. Finger/hand/wrist dexterity.

This position is considered a safety-sensitive position.
