Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Nursing Assistant to join our team at UPMC. As a Nursing Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing direct patient care and supporting the nursing team in delivering high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care as directed by the RN, including activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, and ambulating patients.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for patients, including completing safety checks, keeping the department and patient rooms clean and organized, and cleaning department-specific equipment.
  • Acquire and distribute supplies and equipment to facilitate patient care delivery, including performing messenger functions, ordering supplies, and setting up patient care equipment.
  • Deliver patient nourishments, fill water pitchers, and distribute patient mail.
  • Perform the UPMC nursing core responsibilities for nursing assistants, including blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, and Foley care.
  • Provide feedback to the RN regarding patient care and report changes in patient status.
  • May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints per physician or hospital protocol.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program.
  • Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
Clearances
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Act 34.
