Job Summary:
As a Radiation Physicist at Geisinger Health System, you will be responsible for providing and supervising the functioning and activities related to dosimetry, calibration, treatment planning, and safety equipment. You will maintain equipment and regulatory records, and bill for services. Additionally, you will provide education to Radiation Oncology staff and meet the qualifications to provide care to patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with coordination of equipment usage, selection, and replacement as required.
• Prepare and update physics and dosimetry policies and procedures as required.
• Bill for services rendered.
• Consult with Radiation Oncologists on the physical and radiobiological aspects of patients' treatments and the development of treatment plans.
• Acquire and store data for treatment plans.
• Calculate dose distributions and machine settings for patient treatments.
• Assure the accuracy of treatment units and simulator parameters and settings used for patient treatments.
• Verify the correct transfer of parameters between the simulator, treatment plan, and treatment unit; periodically review each patient's chart for accuracy and compliance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription.
• Perform in vivo measurement to verify the dose delivered to the patient when requested by the Radiation Oncologist.
• Calibrate sources and maintain all information necessary for their appropriate use.
• Maintain all instrumentation required for calibration of sources.
• Measurement of radiation and calculation of doses.
• Assist in the development of techniques to improve the delivery of radiation treatment.
• Participate at chart rounds and other patient discussion conferences as required by the Radiation Oncologist.
• Provide continuing education to the Radiation Oncology staff.
• Help develop and maintain a quality assurance program for all treatment modalities, localization procedures, and computational equipment and programs to assure that patients receive prescribed doses and dose distribution with an acceptable degree of accuracy.
• Participate in development and assist with administration of a radiation safety program as required by the Radiation Safety Officer including compliance with all regulating and certifying agencies.
• Monitor a personnel radiation monitoring program for Radiation Oncology as required.
• Prepare calculation and verify shielding required for new or renovated treatment rooms.
• Provide performance specification, acceptance testing, and commissioning of new equipment.
• Develop and promote interpersonal relations to enhance the achievement of departmental goals.
• Assume the duties of a Senior Physicist if and when such duties are assigned by the Medical Director.
• Follow established departmental policies and procedures.
• Participate in resource allocation planning for equipment usage, selection, and replacement.
• Develop techniques to improve the delivery of radiation treatments.
• Maintain equipment and regulatory records, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies.
