Lead Transmission Systems Engineer
Job Summary:
As a Lead Transmission Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for leading engineering activities for electric transmission and system protection projects. You will plan, control, and manage project activities to effectively complete engineering and design for construction projects. You will provide liaison with other departments, divisions, vendors, or consultants and coordinate with government agencies, customers, other utilities, or groups. You will apply and interpret company, local, state, and national codes and standards and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. You will conduct feasibility studies, complete estimates, and develop engineering criteria.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform engineering analysis of the electric transmission system and recommend actions to develop design options or recommendations for protective relay system to minimize customer outages due to equipment failure or system malfunction.
- Engineer detailed designs.
- Perform engineering calculations.
- Originate electric system and component reliability studies, outage contingency plans, and capital budget proposals including a complete business case.
- Determine corrective action for operating deficiencies.
- Recommend system improvements, develop economic project proposals for improvements, and provide project management for major transmission construction projects.
- Develop and validate information needed for engineering analyses and apply engineering judgment to solve complex technical problems.
- Direct engineering contractors and consultants.
- Demonstrate new technology and implement it to enhance power system performance.
- Provide power system commissioning support and supervision when required.
- Provide construction management, including coordinating field construction transmission lines.
- Develop technical specifications, standards, contracts, and purchase orders.
- Administer contract terms and conditions, track budgets and schedules, supervise field construction to ensure compliance, and approve changes within contract scope and negotiate contract settlement.
Requirements:
Education & Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience required. At least 5 years of experience in electric transmission systems planning, operations, and/or protection. Knowledge of running and analyzing electric power load flows. Knowledge of FERC and state regulations.
Skills/Abilities:
Able to perform circuit analysis including voltage drop capacitor and regular siting. Able to perform fault duty/motor start status. Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills. Strong project management skills.
