About the Job

This Nursing Assistant position is a critical role in supporting the healthcare team at the Department of Veterans Affairs. As a Nursing Assistant, you will play a vital part in ensuring the well-being of our nation's veterans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the admission, transfer, and discharge of veterans, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
  • Perform EKGs and other clinical and technical procedures as assigned, demonstrating a high level of skill and attention to detail.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, such as toileting, feeding, bathing, turning, and positioning, providing compassionate care to our veterans.
  • Escort veterans for procedures, post-surgery, and other needs, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Closely monitor veterans who require continuous monitoring, responding promptly to any changes in their condition.
  • Interact closely with veterans and their families, providing emotional support and reassurance.
  • Work on multiple units, including medical, surgical, intensive care, emergency room, and psychiatric care, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
  • Partner with staff to ensure veteran safety, collaborating effectively to achieve common goals.
Requirements
  • United States citizenship is required.
  • English language proficiency is essential, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • One year of specialized experience as a Nursing Assistant or experience in another medical field, performing technical and nursing skills requiring knowledge of human physical and emotional states, therapeutic communication, and technical skills.
  • Ability to provide a range of patient care and contribute to the completion of the nurse care plan and recovery of patients/residents.
  • Ability to observe patients/residents' physical or emotional status and refer deviations and/or problems to a supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Ability to properly use equipment, materials, and supplies in simple diagnostic and treatment procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients/residents, their families, and other healthcare professionals.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position, working 11:30pm - 8:00am with rotating holidays and weekends. The schedule may be adjusted to support the needs of the Medical Center.
