Biomaterials Engineer

The Lee lab at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate to join our team in Roanoke, VA. Our research focuses on developing novel biomaterials for cancer immunotherapy.

We are looking for an exceptional individual with expertise in biomaterial engineering and organic synthesis to develop innovative biomaterial-based innate immune agonists. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, synthesizing, and characterizing biomaterials to re-educate tumor-homing myeloid cells and activate innate immune responses.

• Design and synthesize novel biomaterials using various techniques, including chemical modification and nanotechnology.
• Characterize the physical and biological properties of biomaterials using advanced analytical techniques.
• Collaborate with our team to develop biomaterial-based innate immune agonists and test their efficacy in preclinical models.

To be considered for this position, you must have:

• A PhD in chemistry, biomedical engineering, or a related field within four years of completion.
• Extensive knowledge of biomaterial engineering, organic synthesis, and cell/tissue culture.
• Experience with animal work, including mouse handling and tail-vein injection.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with our team.

While not required, experience with flow cytometry and establishing glioblastoma mouse models would be beneficial. Additionally, previous experience mentoring students or interns can contribute to your success in this role.

This position offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, ranging from $60,000 to $80,000 per year, depending on qualifications.
