Denver, Colorado, United States VIZIO, Inc. Full time

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior DevOps Engineer to join our growing DevOps Platform team. As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining our cloud-based infrastructure using Kubernetes as your primary platform.

Your focus will be on designing, developing, testing, automating, and maintaining Kubernetes as a platform for our development teams. You will work closely with developers to integrate and streamline development workflows, review design/code, and provide feedback to ensure best practices are followed.

You will also be responsible for creating and building onto platforms that give teams a productive and secure environment to work with. You must be focused on security while also enabling the developers to move at maximum velocity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, automate, and maintain Kubernetes as a platform for our development teams.
  • Be a Kubernetes advocate, staying on top of the latest news and pushing for adoption of best practices.
  • Write helm charts, including helm templating to enable developers to only worry about application/service specific details.
  • Enhance products, tooling, and system solutions for cloud-based infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CI/CD tools e.g. GitHub Actions/Argo CD, and scripting with languages like Python or Typescript.
  • Huddle and collaborate with developers to integrate and streamline development and deployment workflows.
  • Review design/code and provide feedback to ensure best practices are followed.
  • Contribute to and maintain existing documentation, including educational content, system architecture diagrams, post-mortems, and incident management runbooks.

About You:

  • 2-3 years of experience with software development and fluency in more than one programming language.
  • 3-5 years of experience in large-scale infrastructure development/deployment/maintenance of the container orchestration ecosystem Kubernetes.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Cloud Computing or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with a range of Kubernetes tools, such as Kyverno, Karpenter, Kubecosts, K9s, Kops, Kubectl, Argo CD, CoreDNS, Lens, etc.
  • Understanding of cost management strategies within Kubernetes, including efficient bin packing practices.
  • Experience with service meshes, secret management, and multi-cluster related to Kubernetes.
  • Deep understanding of cloud-based infrastructure and tools such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Expertise with the IaC tool: Terraform.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking, security, and some knowledge of operating systems.
  • Understanding of observability and its importance to our software ecosystem.
  • Finds huddling with and talking to other teams important and is willing to work in another team's codebase and respect their space.
  • Embraces the challenge of building platforms that are well documented and easy to use for development teams around the company.
  • Enjoys working with the team in person 4-5 days per week.
  • Consider yourself to have a good work ethic and a dependable teammate.
  • Experience in debugging complex problems and problem-solving under pressure; enthusiastic about taking on new problems.
