Key Responsibilities
As a Phlebotomist II with UNC Health Care, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of blood specimen collection. Your expertise will be essential in performing venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis, as well as participating in waived and moderately complex testing with supervision. You will also be responsible for monitoring incomplete work lists on the Laboratory Information System throughout your shift. Additionally, you may perform assays for ABG's and COOX samples with appropriate supervision.
Requirements
1. Consults with healthcare providers and patients regarding patient care as it relates to phlebotomy service issues.
2. Ensures quality and accuracy of work.
3. Investigates problems with equipment, patient results, specimens, and/or workflow.
4. Participates in teams or performs special projects/assignments.
5. Performs teaching and training of new employees, phlebotomy students, and/or other healthcare providers.
6. Reviews test results to ensure accuracy of reporting and timely correction of errors or reports results to healthcare providers.
7. Performs phlebotomy procedures, quality control, and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory.
8. Responsible for and/or ensures completion of daily work and assigned tasks. Monitors daily operation of laboratory work area.
Education and Certification
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Graduate of an approved training program in Phlebotomy.
3. Registered as a Phlebotomist through ASCP or ASPT.
