About DHS:

DHS is one of the largest organizations dedicated to addressing homelessness in New York City, employing over 2,000 staff members. We work tirelessly to prevent homelessness before it occurs, reduce street homelessness, and assist New Yorkers in transitioning from shelter into permanent housing.

As an Administrative Support Specialist, you will be part of the Division of Shelter Intake, which oversees the day-to-day operations of our Single Adult, Adult Families, and Families with Children intake and assessment sites. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Recording client information and social service referrals using online platforms like CARES and Q-Flow
  • Interviewing families and issuing social service referrals
  • Maintaining liaison with community shelters to convey shelter placement information and facilitate transportation
  • Attending onsite meetings to discuss important issues affecting unit operations
  • Handling client inquiries with confidentiality and sensitivity during the application process

You will also have the opportunity to perform high-level clerical duties, such as preparing administrative reports, collecting and analyzing data, and communicating results to superiors.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills and a passion for working with vulnerable populations. If you are passionate about making a difference in your community, we encourage you to apply.

Salary Estimate: $60,000 - $80,000 per year
