Job Summary

The Orthopedic Technician/Athletic Trainer will play a vital role in our multidisciplinary team at Suncoast Drivers. This position requires a thorough understanding of various bracing and casting techniques to serve as a resource to the medical team. The successful candidate will be responsible for measuring, fitting, and dispensing braces and splints, as well as applying casts under physician guidance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide excellent customer service and ensure timely completion and distribution of paperwork for billing purposes.
  • Apply and educate patients on durable medical equipment (DME) and bracing, including off-the-shelf and custom functional knee braces.
  • Apply and educate patients on bandages, casts, and splints.
  • Address patient inquiries related to casts, splints, or DME.
  • Document information in our Athena (EMR) and Empower (Inventory) systems for cast and DME clinic patients and dispensed items.
  • Maintain the cast room in a sanitary condition and ensure that all patient treatment surfaces are properly cleaned.
  • Ensure casting and DME supplies are adequately ordered and stocked, reporting any issues to the DME Inventory Coordinator and DME Supervisor.
  • Receive DME and supply orders, verifying packing slip accuracy and attaching it to the purchase order.
  • Foster teamwork and morale within the department.
  • Attend regular staff meetings with the DME Manager and Supervisors.
  • Encourage collaboration across departments.
  • Promote a sense of pride in FOI and positive interpersonal relations among team members.
  • Regular hours, Monday to Friday (8-hour shifts), with an option for overtime on Saturdays.
  • Ensure compliance with all company plans, policies, and procedures set forth by the Florida Orthopedic Institute.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Requirements:
  • Preferably a Certified Athletic Trainer.
  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 to 2 years in the medical field is desirable.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and EMR systems.
  • The ability to work independently with the direction of the DME manager.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to perform various tasks as assigned and handle multiple responsibilities efficiently.
  • Enjoy working as part of a team.
Compensation:
  • Salary range: $20-$25 per hour.
