Human Resources Leave Specialist: Strategic Case Manager

About the Role

This is a key position in our organization, responsible for managing all aspects of leave and accommodation cases. The successful candidate will have strong case management skills and the ability to interpret and administer leave and accommodation programs and policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leave and Accommodation Management: Manage all aspects of leave and accommodation cases, including providing extensive case management, coordinating administrative aspects of the case and any applicable claims.
  • Policy Administration: Interpret and proactively administer leave and accommodation programs and policies in accordance with federal and state employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, USERRA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, and Workers' Compensation.
  • Case Resolution: Perform necessary follow-up with providers, employees, and management to obtain further information or clarification on leave and accommodation cases.
  • Documentation and Maintenance: Document and maintain information regarding leave and accommodation cases.
  • Employee Education: Collaborate with the Benefits Unit to educate employees about employee benefits impacted by the leave of absence, including Personal Day accrual, Temporary Disability Insurance usage, Health Insurance, and annual mandatory leave balances.
  • Expectation Management: Manage the expectations of employees and management, ensuring they understand their role and HR's role in leave and accommodation management.
  • Compliance Support: Provide educational support to management and employees related to compliance and administration of leaves and accommodations.

Leave and Accommodation Maintenance

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research and analysis on leave and accommodation issues to provide recommendations for viable solutions while recognizing associated business risks.
  • Procedural Development: Develop and implement procedural changes, documenting new procedures and tracking process and workflow changes.
  • Error Analysis and Improvement: Analyze errors/problems to minimize future concerns and recommend efficiencies.

Collaboration and Relationship Building

  • Business Relationships: Build business relationships with employees, department leaders, and supervisors through providing education, updates, guidance, and consultative advice to effectively manage leaves and accommodations.
  • Collaboration with Employee Relations: Collaborate with the Employee Relations team to effectively manage broad complex cases.

Other Duties/Functions: Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned or directed.
