RN Department Manager

As a key member of the Atrium Health team, the RN Administrative Supervisor plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of hospital activities. This position emphasizes effective communication, patient throughput, patient experience, and quality care. The successful candidate will supervise and coordinate daily operations, interacting with nursing and hospital teams to achieve optimal results.
Key Responsibilities
* Communicate administrative issues and actions taken to the respective nurse leader, Administrator-On-Call, and/or senior administrative leader.
* Conduct regular rounds to assess overall efficiency and productivity, and gain insight into patient care, teammate, and physician satisfaction.
* Guide staff in understanding and compliance with state and federal laws, company policies, and procedures.
* Assist with coordination of communication through huddles, rounds, or meetings to exchange information and promote dialogue.
* Supervise nursing personnel, identify problems, initiate corrective action, and communicate investigative findings to the appropriate department manager.
* Provide advice and assistance to nurses in administering new or unusual treatments or medications, and respond to emergencies.
* Coordinate shift management of patient flow/throughput, including participation in patient placement meetings and interdisciplinary teams to facilitate timely admissions and discharges.
Requirements
* Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
* Current RN licensure in the appropriate state.
* Two years of nursing experience preferred.
* Previous management experience preferred.
* BSN required. RN candidates without a BSN must be enrolled in a BSN program within 1 year of hire/transfer date and complete the program within 3 years of enrollment.
* BLS required per policy guidelines. CPI certification required within 90 days of hire date. Appropriate professional certification required within 1 year of eligibility for certification exam.
Physical Requirements
The work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds is necessary for handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Fluency in English is required, and intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch are necessary. Finger dexterity and critical thinking skills are also essential for this role.
