Corteva Agriscience, a leading agriscience company, seeks an experienced Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property team. This highly visible role offers the opportunity to work closely with in-house legal teams, scientists, and business partners on cutting-edge technologies such as advanced breeding, genomics, CRISPR, and artificial intelligence.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quantitative genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, breeding, or related disciplines, and be registered to practice before the USPTO as a Patent Agent. With a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, they will be capable of analyzing patent landscapes and advising clients on patentability considerations for complex technologies.

This role requires excellent communication and influencing skills, as well as the ability to work independently and proactively with minimal direction. The successful candidate will be able to maintain effectiveness in fast-paced environments and facilitate implementation and acceptance of change within the workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • U.S. patent drafting
  • U.S. and foreign patent prosecution
  • Familiarity with Patent administrative proceedings
  • IP portfolio development aligned with the business strategy
  • Invention development
  • Inventor education
  • Patentability and landscape analysis
  • Assistance in Freedom to Operate analysis

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) from a reputable institution and a strong background in quantitative genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, breeding or in a related bioinformatics computer science discipline
  • Registered to Practice before the USPTO as a Patent Agent
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in drafting and/or prosecuting patent applications as a Registered U.S. Patent Agent, preferably in a law firm
  • Capable of analyzing patent landscape and advising clients on patentability considerations for complex technologies
  • Experience working with foreign associates to assist and coordinate filing and prosecution of international patent matters
