About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist I to join our team at UNC Health Care. As a Surgical Technologist I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas, adhering to accepted standards of process.
  • Provide proper maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques of specialty instrumentation.
  • Follow aseptic technique, identifying and addressing contamination and/or breaks in technique.
  • Perform surgical counts, following policies and procedures for incorrect counts and reporting discrepancies.
  • Assist in the proper identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
  • Participate in the planning and setup of instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes to ensure optimal accessibility during procedures.
  • Assist the surgeon, demonstrating an understanding of patient anatomy and abnormalities affecting the surgical procedure.
  • Inventory, receive, and store supplies under the direction of Surgical Services leadership.
  • Identify and report defective instruments, supplies, and equipment, assisting with restocking operating/procedure rooms and sub-sterile areas.
  • Assist the registered nurse during the intraoperative implementation phase of nursing practice.
  • Operate complex equipment and other resources in the operating room, troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Serve as a mentor for Surgical Technician Trainees and preceptor as needed.
Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program, or equivalent experience
  • Strong communication skills and customer service relations
  • Excellent organizational and priority setting skills
