About the Role

Catalyst Kids is seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Teacher to join our team. As an Assistant Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting the planning and implementation of our programming for children aged 5-13. Your primary responsibility will be to facilitate a variety of age-appropriate activities, support children's social-emotional development, and ensure their safety and well-being at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Implementation: Support the implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum that is connected to children's interests and promotes positive child development.
  • Environment Creation: Maintain intentional, enriched, and supportive learning environments that are age-appropriate for all children.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by establishing authentic connections and reciprocal, culturally responsive relationships with children, families, schools, and communities.
  • Child Safety: Ensure children's health and safety by providing proper supervision, positive interactions, healthy habits, and excellent compliance.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with fellow staff to provide the highest quality programs and creative workplaces.

  • Positive Interactions: Maintain positive interactions with children and youth.
  • Safe Environments: Maintain kind, respectful, and safe emotional and physical environments for children.
  • Reliability: Be on time and present on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Physical Demands: Be physically and mentally capable of interacting with children up to 13 years of age, meeting all their needs, and ensuring their safety.
  • Safety Protocols: Be aware of and implement safety guidelines, report any health and safety issues or incidents to management, and remain calm in emergency situations.
Physical and Environmental Conditions

As an Assistant Teacher, you will be responsible for various program elements on a daily basis and will be exposed to indoor and outdoor elements. You may be required to:

  • Environmental Safety: Visually inspect the environment for hazards to children, identify hazards, and implement preventative actions to maintain a safe environment.
  • Loud Environments: Be comfortable with occasional loud noise in outdoor environments during activities.
  • Physical Demands: Be comfortable with frequent bending, lifting, twisting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Object Handling: Push, lift, carry, and hold various objects up to 15 lbs. by individual or team effort.
  • Weather Conditions: Work inside the classroom or outside in all weather conditions that are safe for children.
  • Terrain and Heights: Traverse various terrains and heights, depending on the school outdoor environment.
  • Child Adaptability: Adapt to the physical level of children for activities and problem-solving interactions.
  • Field Trips: Supervise field trips to destinations such as aquatic parks, beaches, and trampoline parks.
Qualifications and Experience

Catalyst Kids is committed to hiring qualified and experienced staff. As an Assistant Teacher, you will be expected to have:

  • Education: Education and permit requirements may vary by center needs and requirements, such as Infant, Toddler, School-Age, Title 5, or Title 22 status.
  • Experience: 6 months of experience in a group care environment where care and teaching were provided for a consistent age group is preferred.
  • Skills: Effective problem-solving, conflict resolution, classroom management, and communication with children and families.
  • Organization: Effective organization, time management, curriculum, and assessment documentation.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work alongside colleagues and maintain a professional team environment.
  • Certifications: Current adult and infant/child CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
  • Language: Bilingual/multilingual language preference based on individual center needs.
