Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Equipment Specialist to join our team at Old Dominion University. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a high level of preventive maintenance on a variety of light commercial mechanical equipment in an institutional setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC auxiliary equipment, plumbing equipment related to mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment such as motors, breakers, and their associated controls.
  • Work independently to follow department and manufacturer recommendations and guidelines to perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, Plumbing, and electrical equipment and their associated controls.
  • Be knowledgeable of all hand tools used in the trades, including electrical testing meters, water gauges, and alignment instruments, to perform preventive maintenance on a variety of mechanical equipment.
Requirements
  • Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
  • Considerable knowledge of commercial-type mechanical equipment and their operation.
  • Background in building mechanical maintenance and repair in a commercial institutional setting.
  • Considerable knowledge in building HVAC and plumbing operation.
  • Basic knowledge in the electrical field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hold a journeyman or master license in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing trade or equivalent training or certification in all or one of these trades.
  • Backflow license approved by the City of Norfolk.
  • Training in preventive maintenance and/or repair of building mechanical equipment in one or more trades or equivalent work experience.
