Principal Design Professional for Building Safety

A leading construction consultancy based in Northampton is seeking a Principal Designer to join their team. This role has been created to meet the increasing demand following the introduction of the Building Safety Act (BSA).
Job Overview: As a Principal Designer, you will ensure that projects comply with the latest regulations under the BSA and embed health and safety best practices throughout the design process.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of CDM and building regulations, looking to step into a Principal Designer role. Flexible location, only requirement is to visit the office once a week.
Key Responsibilities:
• Act as the Principal Designer under the Building Safety Act (BSA) and CDM 2015 regulations.
• Collaborate with clients, design teams, and contractors to embed safety and compliance into the design process.
• Provide expert advice on building regulations, risk management, and design compliance.
• Prepare and review pre-construction information, construction phase plans, and risk assessments.
• Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
• Support the development of the consultancy's BSA services, contributing to best practices and knowledge sharing.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to deliver exceptional service and maintain strong relationships.
Requirements:
• Background as an architect or strong experience in CDM and building regulations.
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent qualification.
• Understanding of the Building Safety Act and its implications for design and construction.
• Professional membership with APS (AaPS, IMaPS, or CMaPS) or a willingness to achieve accreditation.
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage effectively with clients and project teams.
• A proactive mindset with a passion for compliance and safety in design.
• Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and work to deadlines.
