Job Summary:
The Harm Reduction Specialist will work under the supervision of the Program Supervisor to provide services to individuals who use/inject drugs (PWUD/PWID) within communities in Dutchess, Orange, Ulster, and Sullivan Counties.
Key Responsibilities:
Participate in outreach to PWUD/PWID at community levels and shelters to publicize program services and recruit clients.Provide harm reduction education, counseling, and supplies.Offer referrals for holistic medical, behavioral health, testing, drug treatment, and other support services as needed.Complete assigned trainings and maintain an awareness of trends impacting the priority population.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Observe and adhere to HIPAA and HIV Confidentiality Law requirements.
- Engage the priority population through personal contacts, social media, and other networking strategies.
- Assist in promoting and implementing program services with the community and priority population.
- Maintain confidentiality and pass on referrals for HIV/STI/HCV testing and counseling, PrEP/PEP, drug treatment, medical, behavioral health, and social services.
- Attend monthly department, All Staff meetings, and other required meetings.
- Familiarize yourself with Cornerstone policies and procedures, the Employee Handbook, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
A High School Diploma with experience in peer education, harm reduction, HIV/HCV/STI prevention, and disease prevention.Familiarity with the priority population and geographic area assigned, with a commitment to undergo training about HIV/HCV/STI, harm reduction, social support services, and community resources.Salary Information:
This position offers a competitive salary of $18 per hour, based on local standards and industry benchmarks.
Working Conditions:
This role requires frequent travel within Dutchess, Orange, Ulster, and Sullivan counties, and involves working in various settings, including community-based organizations and shelters.
