Salary and Benefits

Job Description

This internship provides hands-on experience supporting the Innovation Engineering Team and Operations Team for our Motion Business located in Frankfort, IL. The intern will assist with projects and research in both functions, including Safety Initiatives, Productivity Improvements, and Data Analysis.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Innovation:
    • Utilize contemporary tools and market research approaches to gather and analyze data, quantify and justify divisional strategy, and create business cases for new products.
    • Perform benchmarking tests, competitive analyses, and market research to identify opportunities for the division.
    • Review and design product applications using ITW Tools (gear trax, working models, time studies, and kinematics).
    • Assess customer/ITW designs for tooling and product functional feasibility and present results to customers.
    • Prepare new product cost breakdowns with operations support.
    • Learn from Applications Managers and Engineers to apply design, product, and applications expertise.
    • Identify product improvement and evolution opportunities through applications support.
  • Operations:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize production processes and ensure product quality.
    • Review and update production standard work instructions.
    • Assist with 5S implementation on the production floor.
    • Maintain and improve the manufacturing environment to harmoniously respond to changing customer needs and demands.
    • Coach and develop work teams exhibiting positive attitudes, personal accountability, and superior manufacturing quality.
    • Participate actively in the Safety Committee and Employee Work Enhancement Program.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Engineering Technology.
  • Working knowledge of CAD (SolidWorks or CATIA).
  • Excellent organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel.
  • Project Management experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the automotive industry.
  • Understanding of plastic injection molding, tooling, and assembly process.
  • An 80/20 mindset and understanding.
  • The ability to convert customer specifications to value-added solutions.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Self-starting abilities.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
