Senior Cybersecurity Engineer

At The University of Kansas Health System, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to join our Security Architecture & Engineering (SAE) team. This is a critical role that requires a strong technical background and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the development and implementation of security technologies and solutions.
  • Perform technical architecture reviews to ensure adequate security controls and safeguards are in place.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support risk mitigation, align cybersecurity standards, and maintain critical business operations.
  • Monitor cybersecurity systems, including servers, networks, and systems, to identify irregularities and ensure alignment with industry standards and policies.
  • Support the ongoing implementation, improvement, maintenance, and expansion of firewalls, IDS/IPS, load balancers, network access control (NAC), and web application firewalls (WAF).
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior levels of the Cybersecurity organization.
Requirements:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to use innovative thinking to develop solutions to complex problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical and strategic information to peers, working groups, and junior level members of the Cybersecurity Organization.
  • Experience with at least one scripting language.
  • Recognized organizational expert in a technical discipline.
  • In-depth understanding of cybersecurity domains, including security and risk management, asset security, security engineering, communications and network security, identity and access management, security assessment and testing, security operations, and software development security.
  • Understanding of MS Azure technical concepts.
  • Functional understanding of internal, regulatory, and industry standards as they apply to a business environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong attention to detail with an analytical mind and outstanding problem-solving skills.
