Job Summary:

Highmark Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to work in our laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory analyses on clinical specimens, operating and maintaining instrumentation, and ensuring quality clinical information.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality information.
  • Verify analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and all linearity for test methods.
  • Operate, calibrate, check, and maintain instrumentation.
  • Recognize problems with quality control and test procedures, and take appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information.
  • Serve as a consultant to medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and other healthcare providers as needed.
  • Participate in continuing education to ensure growth and development of the laboratory.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations.
  • Collect and process patient specimens in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures and within the expected time frame.
  • Mentor MT/MLT, phlebotomy students, and new employees in laboratory testing, following system policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a directly related field.
  • Ability to work independently on afternoon and night shifts.
  • ICHP VisaScreen Certificate, if applicable.
  • American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist.
