Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Ochsner Health System. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will independently perform advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. You will also serve as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Responsibilities

- Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
- Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
- Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
- Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol.
- Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
- Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards.

Requirements

- Completion of a CAHEA approved formal training program in diagnostic medical sonography.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or registry eligible (required within 1 year of hire).
- Advanced certification in area(s) of specialty according to facility need.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Working Conditions

- Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
- The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases.
