Job Summary

The Custodian RW-3 is a critical member of the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) facilities team, responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our schools. As a Custodian RW-3, you will perform a variety of general maintenance work and custodial tasks to ensure our schools are healthy, orderly, safe, and sanitary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general maintenance duties, including electrical repairs, painting, and carpentry.
  • Conduct ground maintenance and general cleaning responsibilities, including raking leaves, removing snow and ice, and sweeping, mopping, and buffing floors.
  • Collect and dispose of trash, and maintain the cleanliness of restrooms.
  • Perform routine cleaning of classrooms and offices, and make adjustments to powered cleaning equipment.
  • Inspect the building and grounds for cleanliness, state of repair, and report on findings.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector a plus.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to perform minimal/limited electrical work, painting, and carpentry.
Working Conditions

The work involves a wide range of grounds and housekeeping and general maintenance functions for schools and facilities, which involves moving heavy equipment/furnishings, climbing ladders, bending, stooping, and standing for long periods. Good hand and eye coordination is required, and the incumbent must be physically fit to carry out assignments.
