Cytopathology and Surgical Pathology Specialist

At the Commonwealth of Virginia, we are seeking a highly skilled Cytopathology and Surgical Pathology Specialist to join our team. As a Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor in Anatomic Pathology, you will be responsible for providing high-quality pathology services in a manner that supports patient care, education, and research missions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Clinical: Responsible for day-to-day sign-out of cases in an academic Cytopathology and Surgical Pathology service, primarily focusing on Head and Neck Pathology.
• Service: Participation in tumor boards and other conferences with clinical colleagues is required. You will also contribute to departmental, institutional, and national committees when necessary.
• Teaching: Supervision of residents is required. You will also contribute to the education of residents, medical students, and ancillary staff. Participation in undergraduate and graduate education is required.
• Research: Scholarship primarily in Cytopathology and Surgical Pathology through presentations at national meetings, developing clinical research collaborations, contributions to peer-reviewed scientific literature, and active participation in appropriate professional organizations is required.
Required Qualifications:
• MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree
• Board certification in Anatomic Pathology, or combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
• Fellowship training with board certification or eligibility in Cytopathology
• Training or experience in Surgical Pathology (Head and Neck fellowship desirable)
• Full, unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia
• Must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Expertise in Cytopathology and Surgical Pathology (primarily Head and Neck Pathology) with ability to provide coverage for a secondary Surgical Pathology service, if necessary.
• Clinical experience and an interest and/or ability in research and scholarly activity as displayed through publication in professional journals and presentations at national meetings.
