Surgery Coordinator Job Summary

This is a fast-paced, multi-tasking position that requires strong organizational and communication skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for scheduling surgeries, managing provider schedules, and coordinating with athletic trainers and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Completes daily tasks and processes, including powering up equipment and logging on workstations.
  • Sets up medical supplies and equipment for the day and ensures all necessary tests and studies are completed.
  • Handles patient calls, returns messages, and notifies patients of test results and instructions from providers.
  • Schedules follow-up appointments and makes follow-up calls to check on patients post-procedure.
  • Distributes, reviews, and teaches patient education, and organizes and maintains sample and supply closets.
  • Prepares charts, acquires medical records, and ensures all consults are performed.
  • Coordinates inpatient consults, surgeries, procedures, pre-operative testing, and post-op visits for providers.
  • Manages the hospital list of patients, assigns patients to providers, and ensures all ordered tests and studies have been performed.
  • Prepares referrals and obtains authorizations for Managed Care patients and documents them in Intergy.
  • Notifies patients of appointments, forwards clinical data and records to scheduled facilities, and notifies providers and patients of denied requests for authorization.
  • Coordinates admissions with providers and facilities, and coordinates equipment and/or surgical vendors.
  • Prepares patient packets for providers at facilities and manages and coordinates provider surgery schedules.
  • Relieves other staff members and covers their positions as needed.
Requirements:
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Strong customer service orientation and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good working knowledge of medical terminology and strong computer skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and comfortable multi-tasking.
  • Minimum 1 year experience required.
