Job Summary:

The Clinician (Behavioral Health Specialist) will work under the leadership of the Albany County-based Family Opportunity Center Program Supervisor/Clinical Case Planner to deliver key program services and coordinate family center operations.

This position is a crucial member of the family engagement team, responsible for providing behavioral health counseling, supporting services, and connecting families with community-based resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in program design and delivery, adhering to NYS-OCFS regulations, agency policies, and accrediting standards.
  • Drive family involvement in program activities, recruiting and motivating families and potential participants.
  • Coordinate efforts with family engagement specialists, parent-family advocates, and volunteers in strategic program areas.
  • Provide substance abuse counseling, mental health counseling, and supporting services to families with behavioral health concerns.
  • Perform essential needs and protective factor assessments, leading to on-site support or linkage to community-based services.
  • Screen families, identifying factors impacting their physical and mental well-being, and assist them in breaking down barriers to social determinants.
  • Meet families where they are, engaging and supporting them in behavioral health counseling, ancillary services, and connecting them with community resources.
  • Cross-train and provide backup support for family engagement specialists, ensuring solid program functioning and meeting timelines and expectations.
  • Engage in evidence-based practices, supporting the administration and application of trauma-informed treatment and motivational interviewing models.
  • Interface with community-based organizations, government entities, schools, and other stakeholders to ensure a strong referral stream and community connectivity.
  • Support the delivery of regular 1:1 and group staff supervision, ensuring the quality of program documentation and adherence to NYS-OCFS standards.
