About The Role

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Custodial Services Officer to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the care and security of inmates at the County Jail.

Job Summary

This is a full-time position that requires the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. You will be responsible for performing various tasks related to inmate care, including processing inmates, maintaining jail security, serving meals, and transporting inmates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receives and processes inmates into the custody of the institution; searches prisoners; takes charge of personal property.
  • Provides inmates with the opportunity to call an attorney or relative; advises inmates on institutional rules and regulations.
  • Patrols the jail area periodically to ensure security and maintain order.
  • Transports inmates to medical, court, and related facilities.
  • Supervises inmates during meals, personal hygiene, and related activities for conformance to institutional rules, regulations, and procedures.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have a High School Diploma or its recognized equivalent. Additionally, you must be able to enforce institutional rules firmly and fairly, detect potential behavior problems of inmates, and carry out oral and written directions accurately.

Working Conditions

This position involves working in an inside and outside environment, subject to noise and varying temperatures. You must be physically fit and able to perform the duties required of this role.

Salary and Benefits

The starting salary for this position is $40,699.66 annually, with opportunities for raises based on experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
