Evaluation Specialist Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Program Evaluator to join our team in New York, Washington, DC, or another location where we have offices. The successful candidate will work closely with our staff to develop and maintain our project and advocacy evaluation system, plan and conduct evaluations, and create tools for consistent evaluation. This role requires experience in nonprofit program evaluation, skills in qualitative and quantitative evaluation, and the ability to work with diverse staff and partners.


Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a comprehensive evaluation system for our projects and advocacy initiatives, including policies and procedures that specify expectations for all projects and in-depth evaluations for selected programs.
  • Design and implement individual project evaluations, including one or two in-depth evaluations of major programs each year.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations to evaluate HF-funded projects they operate.
  • Create evaluation reports for internal use and for funders, highlighting the impact and effectiveness of our programs.
  • Select consultant evaluators to ensure appropriate experience and skills.
  • Train HF staff to collect data and participate in the evaluation process.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in social science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of experience in program evaluation or related activities in a nonprofit environment.
  • Experience in full range of evaluation activities, including identification of key questions, determination of data needs and sources, use of qualitative and quantitative data, development of step-by-step evaluation plans, development of evaluation tools, work with staff to ensure that necessary data are collected, direct data collection, analysis of data, and preparation and presentation of reports.
  • Ability to conduct and report on evaluations in English and Spanish.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to complete multiple tasks with demanding deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint) and SurveyMonkey or related software.

Benefits and Compensation

The salary range for this position is $72,500 - $77,500 per annum, commensurate with experience. Benefits include fully paid medical, dental, vision insurance, a 403(b) retirement plan with a company match after 6 months, and access to flexible spending and pre-tax commuter benefits. First-year employees receive a generous PTO package with 15 days designated for vacation, 4 personal days, and 8 sick days annually.
