Principal Avionics Systems Engineer

Northrop Grumman is seeking a highly skilled Principal Avionics Systems Engineer to join our team in Melbourne, FL.
This is a critical role that requires a strong background in avionics systems integration, flight deck equipment, and system safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for the integration of aircraft cockpit systems and components, including flight management computers, primary flight displays, control display units, and other avionics systems.
Key Responsibilities:- Integration of aircraft cockpit systems and components
- Requirements development, analysis, maturation, and implementation
- Document designs using detailed schematics, diagrams, and specifications
- Assist in the preparation and support of the verification of aircraft avionics and prime mission equipment installations and aircraft certification documents
- Provide support for the development of system safety documents
- Technical management of program strategic partners and suppliers, including development of supplier statements of work and requirements, review and analysis of supplier design data, hardware/software acquisition, define functional test requirements, and support test execution
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in avionics systems integration, flight deck equipment, and system safety, with experience working with military subsystems or avionics systems environmental qualification. A bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related professional/military experience in engineering, or a master's degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 3 years of related professional/military experience in engineering, or a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related professional/military experience in engineering, are required.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have a bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related professional/military experience in engineering, or a master's degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 3 years of related professional/military experience in engineering, or a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related professional/military experience in engineering
- Must have experience working with military subsystems or avionics systems environmental qualification
- Must have an active, in-scope, DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher that has been granted/renewed within the past 6 years
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain DOD Top Secret Security Clearance
- Must have and maintain special program access after start of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
- An active Top Secret clearance
- Experience with trade studies, documenting subsystem architectures, analyzing performance, and evaluating Technology Readiness Level (TRL) with regard to supplier current and future products offerings
- Experience with system modeling and requirements management tools, developing/maturing requirements, and tracing requirements through various levels
- Experience with military navigation and navigation aids
- Experience with integrating military navigation instrumentation on aircraft and interfacing with mission software
- Integration and/or design experience with one or more of the following avionics systems as applied to military aircraft: FMS, PFDs, CDUs, TAWS, CAS, Embedded GPS/INS (EDI)
- Experience with developing supplier documentation, performance-based specifications, and statements of work
- Experience building supplier evaluation criteria and experience in conducting technical evaluations, documenting results, and selection
