Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Wireless Communications Research Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our team, you will conduct research and development activities in support of Cyber Operations, Special Operations, and Homeland Protection Mission Areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct wireless communication systems engineering research activities to support mission objectives.
  • Develop innovative solutions for military and government sponsors.
  • Apply problem-solving and analysis skills to areas related to telecommunications, remote sensing, and anomaly detection.
  • Lead the research and development of novel signal processing approaches.
  • Identify and implement advanced algorithms and techniques for solving critical communications problems.
  • Develop software prototypes of novel signal processing approaches.
  • Document work in formal technical reports and present findings to sponsors and the technical community.
  • Support testing of prototype and operational systems.

Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in wireless communications engineering.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least five years of experience in commercial and/or government Wireless Communications Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience in implementation languages such as MATLAB, Python, C++/C, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
  • Recent knowledge of DoD and/or intelligence community sponsors and programs.
  • Active Top Secret clearance or higher.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
