Polysomnography Technologist II Position

The Agency Polysomnography Technologist II is responsible for performing a wide variety of polysomnography procedures on patients with suspected injury and disease resulting in sleep disorders. The technologist must demonstrate competence in providing age-appropriate care to patients from birth through 21 years and selected adult patients.
Responsibilities- Perform polysomnography procedures on patients with possible injury and disease resulting in sleep disorders.
- Prepare patients for testing, perform studies, and collect information pertinent to the interpretation of test results.
- Share responsibility for patients in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) with EMU technicians.
- Coordinate the scheduling of patients, physicians, psychologists, and facilities in the Sleep Clinic.
- Accurately apply leads according to the International 10:20 System and adapt recording methods and instrumentation to obtain results based on history, clinical observation, and sleep study findings.
- Recognize and eliminate artifact and electrical interference to obtain high-quality tracings.
- Display each patient's activity in an optimal fashion for clinical interpretation.
- Implement advanced techniques, including parasomnias vs. apnea protocols, seizures vs. apnea, video taping, CPAP, BiPAP, infant/child/young adult/adult procedures, and staging or scoring studies as to the duration and timing of sleep stages.
- Provide appropriate patient care and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizures and other patient-emergency situations.
- Participate in conferences, technical meetings, and other educational activities, and serve as an in-service training instructor for junior staff, technologist trainees, and other medical personnel and patient family members.
- Graduate of an AMA-approved two-year Respiratory Therapy Program.
- Registry as a Respiratory Therapist (or registry eligible by the National Board for Respiratory Care) or Registered Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist.
- Current Ohio licensure or certification to practice respiratory care (Respiratory Therapist only).
- Registered by the Association of Polysomnography Technologists or a technician eligible for registration within twelve months of employment as a Polysomnography Technologist.
- Current CPR certificate.
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences or a related field.
- Proficient in computer operations/technology.
- One year's experience in Polysomnography.
- The incumbent must be able to perform the following physical requirements:
- Ability to lift up to thirty pounds frequently.
- Ability to lift fifty pounds occasionally.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time frequently.
- Transporting equipment occasionally.
- Reaching above the head, stooping, and kneeling frequently.
