Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Nursing Assistant I to provide routine direct and indirect patient care in a hospital, clinic, or home healthcare setting. This role involves working under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician to deliver high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procure equipment and supplies during emergency situations.
  • In the psychiatric setting, aid patients in reality orientation, participate in behavior modification plans/therapy, provide informal support therapy to patients/families, and facilitate age-appropriate play for children.
  • Observe, collect, and document patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.
  • Provide assistance to patients and their families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital/clinic/home healthcare experience, and discharge.
  • Provide care/treatments to patients as outlined in the plan of care, including vital sign measurement, specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, and postural drainage.
  • Provide direct personal care to patients for routine activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with ambulation.
  • Provide indirect care to patients and assigned areas, including cleaning the work area, changing linens, re-stocking supplies, and transporting patients/supplies/specimens.
  • Reinforce routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions.

Requirements:

  • Must be listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Prefer six (6) months of nursing assistant experience.

Work Environment:
This part-time position is employed by UNC Health, a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System. The work schedule is night shifts, and the location is in Raleigh, NC. This position is exempt from overtime.
