We are seeking an exceptional leader to fill the role of Professor and Chair, Electrical Engineering at Northern Illinois University. As a key member of our faculty, you will play a pivotal part in shaping the academic experience of our students and advancing the field of electrical engineering.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Electrical Engineering Department, providing vision, direction, and strategic guidance to achieve excellence in teaching, research, and service. You will work closely with faculty members, staff, and students to foster a collaborative environment that promotes innovation, creativity, and scholarship.

With a strong background in electrical engineering, you will have a proven track record of academic excellence, research expertise, and effective leadership. Your ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, and inspire others will be essential in driving the department's success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Electrical Engineering Department, developing and implementing strategic plans to enhance its reputation and academic programs.
  • Teach and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, fostering a culture of academic excellence and student success.
  • Conduct research and publish papers in reputable journals, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in electrical engineering.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the university, building partnerships that promote interdisciplinary research and community engagement.
  • Serve as a liaison between the department and industry partners, identifying opportunities for collaboration and enhancing the university's reputation.
Requirements and Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must possess:

  • A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years of academic experience, including tenure-track or tenured positions, and/or significant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience in departmental or administrative roles.
  • A strong publication record, with a clear potential for continued research productivity.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
