Nurse Leader

The Nurse Leader will oversee the training and certification of nurses and school system health workers. This role assists nurses, school administrators, and school staff in developing school health programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pediatric nursing and experience in school health services.
Key Responsibilities
Oversees the training and certification of nurses and school system health workers
Assists nurses, school administrators, and school staff in developing school health programs
Plans and directs the activities of registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and other school staff providing health services
Plans and coordinates the implementation of programs of primary prevention and control of communicable diseases, health education programs, wellness activities, and healthcare-related events or campaigns for the school system
Plans and supervises appropriate training programs for specific tasks that can be safely performed by school personnel
Represents the school system at conferences, meetings, community events, or other designated programs related to school-based health and wellness programs
Works with community agencies to provide improved health services
Plans and coordinates school and school system healthcare and wellness education programs; supervises healthcare curriculum implementation
Participates in and/or coordinates health programs and services for designated students
Manages health certifications and credentials records (e.g. CPR, AED, etc.)
Serves as a liaison between the ALSDE and the school system regarding the health program, system reporting, and data collection
Recommends exclusion and readmission of students in compliance with applicable policies and guidelines on infections and contagious diseases/conditions
Provides effective in-service education on health-related topics for school system personnel
Coordinates and implements health screenings mandated by state law (e.g. spinal screening, vision, hearing, etc.)
Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law
Communicates in an effective, clear, and timely manner
Collaborates using communication skills in a professional and sensitive manner
Performs any other duties as assigned
Requirements
Knowledge of effective procedures and practices for vision, hearing, and other appropriate health screening activities
Ability to provide effective staff development and in-service activities
Knowledge of current general medical and pediatric nursing practices
Knowledge of and ability to develop collaborative relationships with community and state healthcare services and agencies
Ability to organize, maintain, and report data and information related to health services
Knowledge of school system functions, departments, personnel, and schools necessary for the efficient and effective processing of communications, requesting of needed information, and implementation of the school nursing programs
Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, highly intensive work environment
Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information
Punctuality and regular attendance
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
