**Job Summary:**
A Machinist/Mechanical Technician will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a variety of equipment used in manufacturing, machining, fabrication, design, assembly/disassembly, and CNC operations.
This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards. There is occasional lifting to 50 pounds and outdoor duties with exposure to natural weather. A government vehicle is used on an as-needed basis. Grease or oil may be found on working surfaces.
The incumbent must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and perform shift and weekend work to meet required schedule demands. This position may require travel.
In general, all positions may require standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Specific work assignments may include additional environmental conditions or physical requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.
Essential Functions/Duties:- Operate equipment and troubleshoot malfunctions using electronic, digital, and hand tools in order to diagnose defects.
- Dismantle and examine parts for damage or excessive wear.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled mechanical maintenance and repair to heavy equipment, parts, accessories, and systems, all mechanical and hydraulic components, bearings, and motors.
- Repair, adjust, or replace defective engines and subassemblies.
- Repair corrosion, weld broken parts and structural components, and apply paint and/or other protective coatings and finishes to equipment.
- Reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.
- Realign the equipment and re-torque to required specifications.
- Test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Service equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air.
- Maintain equipment records and document maintenance actions.
- Maintain external fuel and grounding systems.
- Dispose of hazardous material and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
**Requirements:**
The incumbent must be a graduate from an accredited two-year technical mechanical institution or equivalent, or at least eight years of job-related experience.
In addition, a Mechanical Tech III must also possess the following qualifications:
- Must be capable of operating heavy equipment.
- Must be able to qualify for and maintain a government security clearance.
- Must have a valid, state issued driver's license.
