Hospital Safety Specialist

The Hospital Safety Specialist is a vital member of the St. Luke's University Health Network team, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Patrol hospital property to maintain a safe environment for all individuals.
- Handle and de-escalate situations involving violent behavior from patients.
- Investigate and document security-related incidents, maintaining accurate records.
- Compile daily reports detailing activities and incidents.
- Secure buildings and facilities as needed.
- Participate in fire and disaster response teams, prioritizing safety and emergency preparedness.
- Enforce parking policies and regulations.
- Maintain a professional attitude when interacting with customers, showcasing empathy and understanding.
- Develop competence in responding to agitation/violent behavior through verbal de-escalation and physical restraint techniques.
- Perform hazardous patient decontamination procedures, identifying and containing potential hazards.
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
- Experience in security/security-related fields and customer service is preferred.
This position demands prolonged sitting (up to 8 hours/day), standing (up to 8 hours/day), and walking (up to 8 hours/day). You will frequently handle equipment, occasionally lift objects weighing over 200 pounds with assistance if needed, and engage in stooping, bending, crouching, and reaching above shoulder level. Normal conversation-level hearing and general vision are required.
