Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Assistant

The City of New York is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer Assistant to join its team. As a key member of the Asset & Capital Management Division, you will be responsible for performing mechanical engineering work of moderate difficulty and responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and prepare contract documents for upgrading building systems and/or designing new systems.
  • Perform work in design, inspection, and testing.
  • Prepare condition assessment and feasibility reports and construction drawings using AutoCAD and other software as applicable.
  • Engage in research and investigation related to the mechanical engineering functions, including the repair and capital improvement of NYCHA infrastructures.
  • Prepare bid documents including drawings and specifications.
  • Conduct field visits and emergency site visits, including investigation of unsafe conditions throughout all five boroughs.
  • Respond to RFIs with solutions to problems encountered prior to bid or during construction.
  • Coordinate the assigned design work with other disciplines and project managers.
  • Monitor progress of assignments against design/construction scope, budgets, and schedules.
  • Review A/E consultants and contractors' mechanical submissions.
  • Prepare cost estimates; track project schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate construction documents and constructability reviews.
  • Coordinate with design teams to establish and assure implementation of mechanical design standards for the Capital Program.

The ideal candidate will have a baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in mechanical engineering work, or a baccalaureate degree and a Master's degree in mechanical engineering.
