Student Nurse Extern Position

The Student Nurse Extern position at The Communities of Don Guanella and Divine Providence offers a unique opportunity for nursing students to gain hands-on experience in providing care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist Registered Nurses and Licensed Practice Nurses in providing care for residents in all three skill domains: Clinical/Technical Skills, Critical Thinking Skills, and Interpersonal and Communication Skills.
  • Utilize the nursing process to guide the provision of novice level developmental disabilities nursing care.
  • Work under the direct supervision of an R.N. to demonstrate competencies needed to insure the provision of safe pediatric developmental disabilities nursing care.
Requirements:
  • Must be an active student in their last year or going into their last year of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Ability to work part-time hours during the school year (less than 30 per week).
