Job Summary

This role performs a variety of tasks with varying levels of complexity, including cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing surgical equipment, maintaining documentation, and assisting physicians, anesthesiologists, and nurses as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleans and prepares anesthesia equipment for use, including restocking supplies and assisting with pre-operative anesthesia blocks.
  • Provides sanitation and stocking services for the surgery center, including supplies, linens, solutions, and specimen containers.
  • Maintains accurate documentation records of the reprocessing and sterilization process, as directed by regulatory agencies and medical center policy.
  • Applies sterile techniques when handling instruments and packages, and assists with patient positioning and preparation for surgery.
Additional Duties
  • Performs point-of-care laboratory testing.
  • Assists during intubations.
  • Maintains immediate availability to assist in routine and emergency procedures.
  • Assists with blocks in the pre-holding area.
  • Ensures anesthesia equipment is properly disinfected and cleaned after use, per hospital infection control policy.
  • Assists in maintaining an appropriate level of supplies in each operating room.
  • Communicates with the Biomedical Department and department supervisor or manager to ensure the availability of properly functioning equipment.
Requirements
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when setting up, cleaning, maintaining, and handling anesthesia drugs and apparatus.
  • Demonstrated completion of yearly unit competency requirements.
  • Competency in Microsoft Windows.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Anesthesia Technology, or certification as an anesthesia tech, or graduate from an AEMT or LPN program with additional on-the-job training.
  • Medical knowledge obtained through job experience on a nursing unit or other related healthcare setting.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment, including latex materials or appropriate substitutes.
  • Ability to move freely about the facility with or without an assisted device.
  • Overall vision and hearing are necessary, with or without assisted devices.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
